Strange Moon Facts 2, Hot Facts
and Fun Girls

The moon is about ¼ the size of Earth.

Our moon is the only moon in the entire solar system to have a near perfect circular orbit.

The moon rotates at about 10 miles per hour, while the Earth rotates at 1,000 miles per hour. So the Earth is spinning 100 times faster than the moon.

How come we can only see one side of the moon? Well that’s because the moon rotates at about 10 miles per hour, so as the Earth is rotating, and the moon is rotating around the Earth at 10 miles per hour, that’s the exact speed that it takes to keep one side of the moon facing the Earth.

The crust of the moon is made up of some interesting particles. Such as uranium 236, neptunium 237, and these are not found on Earth. And they found rust proof iron particles.

What do we do if we run out of water on Earth? Well, if you heat lunar dust to 800 degrees centigrade, it will turn into water.

Apollo 11 landed on the moon with only 20 seconds of fuel left. Talk about a close call.

Now we may have beat the soviets to the moon, however in 1959, the soviets were the first to send the space craft, the Luna III, to bring back pictures of the moon.

Scientists still aren’t sure on how the moon came to be. There are many theories, but I’m just going to tell you about 3. Theory 1: A chunk of the Earth became disconnected and thus creating the moon. Theory 2: The moon was created by left over dust particles in space. These two theories have been disproven because scientists have studied the chemical composition of the lunar rocks and found this to be impossible. Theory 3: The moon was somehow captured in the gravitational pull of the Earth. This theory just doesn’t have enough evidence to support it, so scientists still aren’t sure on how the moon came to be.
