Strange Moon Facts, Hot Facts
and Fun Girls

And now get ready for some fun facts about the moon:

  1. The moons composition is actually quite strange. Normally when a planet is formed, the heavier elements are in the core and the lighter elements are on the surface. However, the moon is the exact opposite. The lighter elements are in the core and the heavier elements, like titanium and other metals, make up the surface of the moon.
  2. Did you know that someone has actually been buried on the moon? In a way. Dr. Eugene Shoemaker’s life long dream was to go to the moon; however, he was denied becoming an astronaut because of his medical conditions. So when he died in 1999, they took his cremated ashes and put it on a lunar spacecraft. They sent it up to the moon and crashed it into a crater. So in essence he fulfilled his life long dream of going to the moon. Well, kind of.
  3. One small step for man, one giant step for mankind. The shoe print that Neil Armstrong left on the surface of the moon will stay there for over ten million years.
  4. The moons crust is a lot harder than we first suspected. Astronauts have tried to drill a hole into the crust and found that it was extremely hard because the crust is made up of hard metals.
  5. The moon doesn’t have volcanoes; however, it does have “moon quakes.” Scientists have been able to record these “moon quakes” and gaseous eruptions and they’ve seen that they cause red glowing lights sometimes. Now no body knows where these red glowing lights come from.
  6. Apollo 15 was the first mission to use a lunar rover; however, the lunar rover only went to about 10.56 miles per hour.
  7. Lights on the moon? People have been observing unexplainable lights since before Plato was around. NASA put out a report that says: “Between the years of 1540 and 1967, they saw over 570 accounts of unexplainable lights and flashes on the moon.
  8. There is not enough gravity on the moon for its size, and because of that, some scientists have theorized that the moon might be hollow.
  9. We normally do not associate the moon with how we weather or water; however, lunar instruments have detected a water vapor cloud kind of like fog, which covered a 100 square area of land and lasted for about 14 hours.
